Homemade Atta Momos | Wheat Momos Recipe

Due to the corona lockdown, we all have to stay inside. This might be a great time to connect with the family, spend time together and enjoy things that we all love, but when you crave for something you love, it is not the right time. So, we all decided to cook up things we love at home but with our own personal touch. The first thing we made was the Atta Momos!

Yes, momos, those small dumplings filled with delicious fillings of vegetables and paneer(we are all vegetarians), sometimes steamed, sometimes coated with scrumptious flavorings or fried or toasted in tandoor. No matter how you like them, momos can make you go wow... Here is a little recipe for you all to try out, and yes, this one is super easy!

Serving Size: 5 people (4 pieces each)

Ingredients: For the Dough, you will need,

3 cups of wheat flour (You can also use maida if you like)
3 tablespoons of refined oil (You can use olive oil too)
Salt according to taste
Warm water

For masala stuffing

  • 5 tablespoons of cooking oil
  • 8 cloves of garlic finely chopped
  • 3 onions finely chopped
  • 1 capsicum finely chopped
  • 2 carrots grated
  • 1 large cabbage shredded
  • 2.5 tablespoons of vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 2.5 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of green chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of schezwan chutney
  • Salt according to taste
You will need oil for coating momos too while steaming and while preparing them.
Steps
  • Prepare a smooth dough that is not sticky or too tight. It has to be smooth and non-sticky.
  • Cover it with a wet cloth and leave it aside for 30 minutes to one hour.
  • Now, heat cooking oil in a non-stick pan.
  • Saute finely chopped garlic, once they are slightly golden add onion and saute them until they are translucent.
  • Start adding vegetables, beginning with carrots, following with cabbage and capsicum. Saute them nicely.
  • Add soy sauce, vinegar, schezwan chutney, green chilly sauce, black pepper, salt to taste and saute it until all the water from the vegetables has evaporated and they are finely combined.
  • Now take the dough, make small balls about the size of a one rupee coin and flatten them in round size by applying oil using a rolling pin. If you have made puris, this is sorta same, but towards the thinner side.
  • Add one small spoon of stuffing on it and wrap it like momo or any shape you wish. It should look like a pleated bundle.
  • Once done, apply some oil all over the momos, and place them in the rice cooker steaming section. You can preheat the rice cooker water for this. Cook them for about 15-20 minutes. this may vary so keep checking.
  • If you do not have a rice cooker, you can use any deep utensil where you can boil water and place a colander on top keeping a gap between so that the water doesn't reach momos and cover it with another utensil.
Colander looks like this!

  • Or use an idli stand designed for pressure cookers.
  • Serve with chutney of your choice!

You can make changes in the vegetables you wish to add or stuffing you want to add according to your taste.
