This Dreamy Floral Nail Art Is Blowing Up In NYC This Summer
For a long time, if you went to your local nail salon and asked for a flower design, you'd be walking out with a circle of five teensy toothpick dots on your ring finger. It was cute and simple, but not exactly elevated. But this summer, there's a change in the air — and watercolor floral, the nail-art trend taking over NYC, is the prettiest, most ornate take on flowers on fingernails we've ever seen.
Whatever your aesthetic or color preference — minimalist pink petals or a blend of bright blossoms — find a look to inspire an elegant floral manicure for summer, ahead.
This design was drawn freehand, based on photo inspiration provided by the client," says Niki of this ornate floral design over a bare nail. "I used a fine-line art brush to create the small details.”
Celebrity nail artist Julie K originally tipped us off to the trend with this look: a shiny, almond-shaped nail with soft-blended watercolor florals painted over top.
NYC's trendy Bisou salon provides an example of how to make a hand-painted watercolor floral mani look minimalist and dainty, with the bouquet on an accent nail only.
If you like the look of a uniform floral print, almost like a wallpaper, you can get the look with a floral nail wrap.
These bright petals look extra fresh over a translucent, jelly-like base.
Despite the intricate design, watercolor florals aren't reserved for long fingernails. Here, you can see how expertly-laid floral wraps look adorable on short, clean nails, too.
