Skin Care Tips For Holi: Before & After
Holi is here!
I love this holiday. Colorful, vibrant, welcoming for everyone and filled with lots of yummy sweets. Although it is very interesting, but holi can be a bit too much for our skin. Stains, patches and dryness is pretty common among all of us after playing holi. If you are on for playing holi this year, I have some interesting tips and suggestions for keeping it from ruining your skin.
You are fully prepared to color everyone this year with those herbal gulals, but are you prepared for taking care of your skin as well?
A little preparation before holi celebration can go a long way for skin care. Let's get started.
Pre Holi Celebration Skin Care
You are fully prepared to color everyone this year with those herbal gulals, but are you prepared for taking care of your skin as well?
A little preparation before holi celebration can go a long way for skin care. Let's get started.
- Apply oil all over your face, neck, ears, arms, legs or any other exposed part of the body before playing holi. You can use coconute oil, mustard oil or olive oil for this. It will help in getting rid of the color quickly. You can also use cold creams as well, but apply a generous oily amount for complete protection.
- Oil your hair as well and tie it in a plait or a bun before playing holi. Dry gulal and chemical based holi colors can damage your hair.
- Wear full sleeved t-shirts or apparel for complete coverage and preventing the colors from coming in direct contact with your skin.
- Apply generous amount of sunscreen if it is a sunny day and you are playing holi outside.
- Apply oil or Vaseline around your nails and cuticles for preventing stains.
- It is best not to wax, thread, go for facial or any such thing for at least 2-3 days before holi which might expose your skin or make it sensitive.
Holi Tips
- Use herbal gulal or natural colors for playing holi. Chemical based colors are not only harmful for environment but for your skin and hair too.
- Apply makeup if you do not like oily skin. Use good quality waterproof foundation, buff lipstick and transparent nail polish from keeping stains away.
Face Packs for Removing Holi Color Stains on Skin
- Add 2 tbsp. of lemon juice to a bowl of curd and apply on the areas with colour. Then, take a bath with normal or lukewarm water to take the colour off.
- Alternatively, mix besan, almond oil and malai (milk cream) with rose water. Mix the ingredients till they become a thick paste and apply on the coloured areas. Let it dry and then rub off. Take a bath with mild soap if necessary. Put some cotton pads soaked in rose water or cucumber on eyes and rest.
- Mashed, ripe papaya applied to the face removes colour effectively.
- Make a paste with a few rose petals, malai and honey for the lips. This treatment will take the colour off and give you full, red lips.
- Oily Skin: 2 tbsp. of multani mitti, 1 tsp. of glycerine and water should be mixed well together. Apply and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse and gently pat dry.
- Normal skin: 2 tbsp. of masoor dal powder, 1 tbsp. of rice flour and a pinch of haldi should be mixed well with rose water. Apply and leave on for 10 minutes. Wash off and pat skin dry.
- Dry skin: Mix 1 tbsp. soy flour and milk with a bit of glycerine and a dash of sea salt into a paste. Scrub face for 10 minutes and wash off.
Have a safe and Happy Holi!
Lots of Love!!!
