6 Tips to Grow Out Short Nails

If anyone can benefit from an article like this, it's me. I am horrible when it comes to growing out my nails! I constantly bite and pick at them, and because they are so short, I find it pointless to do anything when it comes to polish and nail art. However, after going through these handy tips from cutepolish for dealing with short nails, I think I can turn this nasty habit around and give my hands the TLC they have been missing out on for much too long.

If you struggle with short nails like I do, you will find these tips and tricks super helpful!

Tip 1

To avoid fiascoes like tears and chips, it's important to keep your nails strong with products like hardener and base coat. Even if you don't have time to give yourself a full manicure with polish, glitter, or art, by applying coats of clear product every week, you will ensure strength and durability, which will allow your nails to grow.

Tip 2

Keeping your nails and cuticles moisturized is just as important as the rest of your skin. The weather can have a major effect on your skin and your nails are no exception, so having a moisturizing cuticle cream on hand is a great way to keep them strong.

Tip 3

Acetone is an ingredient found in most nail polish removers. It's great for removing stubborn products, like glitter polish, but for regular enamels, it's not necessary. Not only does it dry out your skin and nails, but it also strips them of their natural oils, which can lead to breakage and peeling. If you need to remove polish from your nails, try to use an acetone-free remover whenever possible!

Tip 4

Doing household chores like washing dishes or cleaning the bathroom is great for your home, but not so great for your hands. Hot water and cleaning products can really do a number on your skin and nails, which can prevent your from having the perfect mani you desire. Wearing gloves while performing these necessary tasks is the perfect way to protect your hands and nails without hindering the quality of your cleaning job.

Tip 5

Stop biting your nails! Personally, this is my number one problem and something I have been working on for a very long time. I've had periods of success when it comes to kicking this habit, but something always manages to bring me down, and I end up with a bunch of short, bitten nails again. Not only does biting your nails make you susceptible to illness, but it can also cause permanent nail damage.

Tip 6

If nail biting is something you struggle with, there are things you can do to combat the habit. Some solutions include using an anti-nail biting polish, stick-on nail products, and occupying your hands (and your mind) with a healthier task when you find yourself feeling stressed or bored.
